Alright! It’s almost complete! My new home studio that is I know that those of you that have been following me for some time now have been anxious to hear how it’s going so here we go:

I have the board and everything installed and I picked up a new MAC to handle all the heavy duty work. We completely renovated the sound room and even addec a window so it’s like a real control room setup! How cool is that? Aside from all that stuff we outfitted all the accessories all around and I picked up some really cool tube effects and processors to handle all the cool guitar sounds!

I think the little headphones we picked up for other people to listen in are probably some of the best cheap headphones I’ve ever tried which was really surpising considering we only paid $15 dollars for each pair, check out the link to read more about them!

I was recently introduced to an online singing course called Singorama by a friend who swore by it. She claims she was able to improve on her vocal range within 4 days. I found that a bit hard to believe as I have been taking vocal lessons from a local singing coach for the past 3 weeks, and have yet to notice any improvement in my singing. I have been paying $120 per hour with this coach, but now I feel like I am wasting my money. I could’ve saved it and paid my rent instead.

Singorama, apparently, costs way less than hiring a singing coach. Perhaps I should take a second look at it. I am really intent on improving my vocal range before Christman because there is a choir competition that I wish to participate in. I have been trying out for it since the 12th Grade but I never make it past the 1st round.

Let’s look at how to avoid some potential problems while monitoring in a home recording studio setup. While recording and especially mixing we need to hear exacty what’s going down or what is already there. Let’s say you’re working on a mix and are focused on the overall high-frequency response. If your monitor speakers have poor response in those high frequencies you’ll naturally compensate for this and add some highs to your mix, problem solved… or is it?

Now you take the mix and play it through some speakers that have a normal high-frequency response and now your mix sounds way too high in that range. This is exactly why we need to have at least one set of speaker monitors that have as close to a flat a frequency response as possible.
