Skydiving is by far one of the ultimate thrills you can do. There is nothing like soaring through the air at over 120 mph, racing towards the ground with only a flimsy canopy to stop you from hitting it hard. I had the pleasure of going skydiving in north carolina recently, and it was a completely awesome experience. I decided to write this post about it to share with anyone who hasn’t actually tried it.
Arriving at the skydiving center at around 10 am, our jump was scheduled for 11 pm. With bad weather moving in the area, it seems as though we needed to get going quickly, but unfortunately the place was already packed with tons of first time jumpers, and they were getting backed up. We had to fill out a variety of waivers and watch videos about the potential dangers of skydiving, and I’m not gonna lie, it kind of scared me a little bit.
With all of that out of the way, we then proceeded to the checkout counter, where it was do or die time. If we decided to back out, now was the time. Well, what the heck, I decided to take the plunge and go for it anyway. Besides, the ride here is statistically more dangerous, right?
We watched as our chutes were packed by experienced professionals, and before we knew it the skies had cleared and we were given the go ahead for our jump. Now, as this was my first time, I had to do what is commonly called a “tandem jump”, where you are strapped to another highly qualified individual is is very experienced in the art of skydiving. Keep in mind that my girlfriend, Michelle, had already gone skydiving in san francisco before, so she was seasoned in the art of it.
We boarded the plane, headed to our 13,500 ft destiny. I was nervous the entire time the plane was ascending to its predetermined altitude. Once we hit it, the green went on, and before I knew it the door was opened and I was leaning outside of it. Looking down was a bad idea, trust me. What did I get myself into? Seconds later, whoosh we went and all I could hear was the loudest noise ever.
All in all, it was a great experience that is not for the faint of heart. I would highly recommend it to anyone on the fence. It is absolutely the experience of a lifetime.
